Within the IT department there are several interest areas. Networking and systems administration is one of these. The courses that are offered in this category support several concentrations within the BSIT and MSIT, as well as the BS in Applied Networking and Systems Administration. For both the BSIT and MSIT programs students may take several different 3 course sequences, potentially focusing on several disparate areas.
The RIT IT program was the first of its kind and the same holds true for the BS in Applied Networking and Systems Administration (ANSA) degree. Housed in the RIT College of Computing, ANSA was formed 2 years ago to answer the increasing need for advanced studies in network infrastructure, wireless communications, systems and security. Students that leave the ANSA are the best in the world at what they do. It is a program available nowhere else but RIT. Currently this program has nearly 200 students.
The BS in Applied Networking and Systems Administration (ANSA) degree was created for those who wish to obtain an in-depth education in one of several related areas including network administrator, systems administrator and wireless network administrator. This coursework includes longer concentrations (6 courses) and a slightly different core than the IT degree. Pervasive throughout all of the coursework is security. All courses contain security modules with some focusing on security completely.
