As interactive technologies advance, the forms of communications media have changed. The current theme has become one of enhancing human communication through electronic environments. This advanced certificate provides an opportunity for students to gain first-hand knowledge and expertise in the art and science of interactive electronic media development.
Certificate DescriptionThe Advanced Certificate in Interactive Multimedia Development (IMD) is a post-baccalaureate certificate program offered by the Information Technology Department at RIT. Students explore concepts in interactive multimedia development through a series of six (6) 4-credit courses. This program covers the foundation theories of interactive computing, the fundamentals of website architecture and development, the fundamentals of interactive multimedia design and development, website scripting, programming in a multimedia authoring language, and the impact of networked technologies. Projects include the development of websites and interactive multimedia applications. The certificate can be personalized with an advanced elective in website or multimedia development or in usability engineering, or, depending upon the student's background, with an elective in a related area such as database concepts or electronic commerce.
The certificate can be completed in one (1) academic year by taking two courses in each of the fall, winter and spring quarters. Students may also satisfy the requirements of the certificate by completing one (1) course per quarter over a period of two years or longer. This certificate may also be achieved through coursework completed as part of the MS degree in Information Technology, which is also offered by this department.
Applicants to this program must have introductory-level background in object-oriented computer programming (OOP) concepts. Bridge coursework is available for students needing to complete the programming prerequisite.
This certificate program is available for part-time study only, and is not available for study at a distance. RIT cannot issue I-20 paperwork to foreign students for study in the United States.
Students typically take one (1) year to complete this certificate.
